The Pennsylvania Department of Education, in partnership with the Center for Schools and Communities, is sponsoring a two and a half day Migrant Education Program Conference from October 28-30, 2008 at the Sheraton Park-Ridge Hotel and Conference Center.
This conference will offer tools, strategies and resources to strengthen and support the academic and social success of Migrant Education Program students through:
  • Promising practices for migrant education studentsʼ school success
  • Educational and support services that address migrant studentsʼ special needs
  • Parent engagement efforts
  • National updates on federal migrant program requirements

 

Who should attend?

Migrant Education Program staff, including project managers, data specialists, parent coordinators, recruiters, and student support specialists, school district teachers, guidance counselors and administrators and community organizations.
 

How do I register?

There is no fee to attend the conference. To register, please complete the online registration.

Meals
Registration includes breakfast, lunch and a recognition dinner on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, and breakfast and lunch on Thursday, October 30th.
 
Lodging
Lodging accommodations for Migrant Education Program staff have been arranged by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Center for Schools and Communities.
Travel and lodging for school district personnel and other attendees are the responsibility of the participants. A block of hotel rooms has been reserved for participants attending the conference at a special rate of $139 per night plus tax. This rate will be available through Friday, September 26, 2008. Rooms are limited and the block may sell out prior to cut-off date so make your reservations early!

Please note: Upon arrival and check-in, you may be asked for a credit card or cash deposit for incidentals such as phone calls, movies, room service, etc. A credit card or cash deposit is not required if these services are not used. Please inform the hotel staff of your decision at the time of registration.  

Act 48

The Center for Schools and Communities, as a division of the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, is offering Act 48 professional development credit for those with Pennsylvania teaching or administrative certificates.Participants must attend the workshop from beginning to end to receive credit.Only specified trainings are available for credit.A facilitator will distribute the Record of Attendance form at the beginning of the workshop and collect the required information upon the completion of the workshop.If you are interested in receiving Act 48 credit, please check the appropriate box on the registration form.
